EDITORIAL: Enforce the speed limit
Driving faster than the speed limit is a problem in Pueblo and cities of comparable size or larger, and it only gets worse as the population and traffic grow.
A front-page article in last Saturday’s Chieftain spotlighted Lincoln Street/Thatcher Avenue, as just one of the local roadways where speeding is so prevalent as to be a danger to pedestrians and motorists. The article included eyewitness testimony on the stretch of Lincoln between Abriendo and Orman avenues, where little children attending Carlile Elementary School are particularly at risk to speeding traffic.
Speed traps help slow down traffic a little, eyewitness Harold McCarver said, but the problem continues after police leave.
