El Salvador’s Colorado Consulate to be based in Aurora
AURORA – City officials say El Salvador’s new Colorado consulate will be based in Aurora.
The Aurora Sentinel reports Monday the city of Aurora recently signed a formal deal with the Central American country to open its consulate in the city’s former city hall building. It will be Aurora’s first international office.
City officials expect El Salvador representatives to sign a lease for the building in a few days and begin consulate operations by next month.
The city’s Office of International and Immigrant Affairs Manager Ricardo Gambetta says U.S. Census data shows one-third of the state’s Salvadoran residents live in Aurora. Mayor Steve Hogan travelled to El Salvador to convince officials to bring the consulate to his city instead of Denver.
The consulate will also serve Wyoming and Kansas Salvadoran residents.
