Ballot selfies made easier
Now that a federal judge in Colorado has said a state law that bans taking a picture of a completed ballot shouldn’t be enforced, there’s an app for that.
Democracy Live, a Seattle-based voting information technology company, is promoting LiveBallot, which allows voters to share a digital replica of their ballot and to socialize about it.
Last Friday evening, U.S. District Judge Christine Arguello issued a preliminary injunction to halt enforcement of a Colorado law that’s been on the books since 1891, and updated in 1980, to stop people from selling their votes and offering a picture as proof.
State Sen. Owen Hill, a Republican from Colorado Springs, filed the complaint, saying it was outdated and infringed on people’s First Amendment rights.
